Today, leading Australian politicians from the major parties battled it out to win the votes of the future at a political debate moderated by school children. The event was hosted by Crinkling News, Australia’s only national newspaper for young Australians, and Kinderling Kids Radio, with organisational support from Marlin. Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce (Coalition), Co-Deputy Leader of the Greens, Senator Larissa Waters, and Shadow Assistant Minister for Education, Amanda Rishworth (Labor) had 60 seconds to answer questions from a panel of young reporters. It was no easy ride – politicians were grilled on renewable energy, unpaid internships, the gender pay gap, Constitutional recognition of Indigenous Australians, and the future of the Great Barrier Reef. The debate was professionally filmed and photographed, streamed on Facebook <link>, and live tweeted under the hashtag #kidsdebate.
