Problem
Trócaire need to keep up with the ever growing demand of hospital needs in Somalia. The solution came with an ambitious funding goal of €1m over 3 years
Solution
Marlin worked with Trócaire to create a Major Donor direct ask pack that focussed on the critical and urgent nature of their support.
Results
Trócaire are in year 1 of their fundraising efforts and have already secured €680,000 towards their €1m goal.
“Even though we are on the other side of the world, Marlin was recommended to us to try a new approach to our marketing materials … and we were not disappointed. Karl and the team have been a pleasure to work with and really took the time to understand who we were and what we needed. Over the last year they have produced materials that have had a huge impact on our fundraising efforts which ultimately was the aim. We would highly recommend them not just for their creativity, insights and professionalism but also for their general pleasantness”

The Challenge
In line with their mission, Trócaire is now the longest standing organisation to work in Somalia (since 1992). In fact, they now run the main healthcare and hospital support system available to people in the South Central Somalia Gedo region.
Their ongoing work there is critical. 11 million Somali people are still without access to healthcare and an average of 19,000 people are treated in hospitals each month (suffering from an array of ailments including drought afflicted illnesses, COVID-19, locust plague and famine).
Trócaire knew these conditions needed to drastically improve. To do so they needed to build a new hospital to cater for an additional 30,000 patients a year and alleviate the stress existing hospitals were experiencing. The solution came with an ambitious funding goal of €1m over 3 years and they partnered with us to develop an innovative Major Donor campaign to meet this target.
The Solution
Marlin worked with Trócaire to create a Major Donor direct ask pack that focussed on the critical and urgent nature of their support. The creative expressed the breadth of their work in the South Central Somalia Gedo region and included a detailed, phase driven breakdown of the development plans.
This approach helped to articulate the present problem and the scale of work needed to help the people of Somalia. When presented in this way the communications emphasized the unique and tangible nature of the ask.
The direct ask pack was also converted into digital communication materials to facilitate Trócaire reaching out to supporters who had not supplied their mailing details (or had specifically made the request to receive a digital version in order to share it with their network).
The Results
Trócaire are in year 1 of their fundraising efforts and have already secured €680,000 towards their €1m goal.
These funds have already facilitated ground staff in Somalia to undertake vital hospital and mobile health unit refurbishments and thousands of people each month have access to x-ray facilities and improved standards of care.
As Trócaire moves into year two they are working with us once again to help them communicate with their Major Donors the simple, yet compelling, opportunities
